i`m doing some work in a warehouse and found that a 2-gang metalclad switch supplying 2 sets of lights is supplied by 2 different phases,is this acceptable, bad practice or against the regs and be put right asap ?. would be grateful for your help.

As long as the is a label stating there is 400v present No
 
As above. But if it's a grid switch, then the label can be inside on the yolk, not necessarilly on the outside of the switch
 
I believe Gizmo's thinking is that any work to be undertaken requires the removal of the faceplate first so you still get the warning in time, a reasonable idea especially if the customer complains about the ugly stickers over his nice shiney switch:rolleyes:
