Got to a chaps house where he said that the lights have stopped working in a room and he is getting shocks off the taps.

Got on end of my makeshift wander lead out earth on end put my t5's on the tap and was reading 230v... so asked if he had been messing around with anything, he said noooooooo i haven't touched anything so turned the power off and asked to see the lights that were down and found this pile of sh+t. surprise surprise he had been adding down lights to the room and did the normal thing of putting all the black together and all the reds together.. well done mate well in the process of trying to kill our self you have also taken wires out and put them on the water pipe and the the hell is the 6mm doing?

After asking what his electricians number was as i wanted to speak to him he finally found the balls to tell the truth. after looking closer the earth's were cut out on loads of the wires.

now, in relation to another thread, safe working in a loft, that's when i'd want to isolate the electrics before insulating the loft. that'd leave a nice time bomb!

flipping crazy isn't it, it really did shock me when i seen it hence taking pictures as i thought everyone on here might find it interesting. he fact he tried to lie about it as well just topped it off for me.

everytime I have been to look at a fault that has been caused by someone they have all lied. some do it thinking it will be cheaper if they don`t tell you what the fault was ie "It was working perfect, its just gone off" yeh right. the others are too embarrassed to admit they have done it. It is funny when its the hubbie that done it and its the mrs who calls you out though :D then the full truth comes out as she is blasting him for not having lights etc for days or as I had in the past one only had partial lights upstairs for over 3 months ?? wow.

Without all diy bodgers we would all be the poorer for it. I like nothing better than going in somewhere that the electrics are totally mucked up and having the pleasure of sorting it all out. If the bodger that did the work still lives in the house and has called you out that is the icing on the cake. I love pointing out all the problems and dangers that exist and watching for their reaction. Then you present them with the bill. Satisfaction and a job well done!
