If when u have carried out a pir and the installation is unsatisfactory and u have recommended a re wire on some circuits or all what do u put on the label on the fuseboard if you u are saying it needs re wiring on the cert to say next inspection in 5 years does really make sense as you are saying it needs attention straight away ? Any ideas what do u do ?

It always for me depended on how many codes 1 + 2 you found. If the installation was so bad that it needed a rewire then I may not attach a sticker at all and inform the client in writing that IMO it was in need of rewire and therefore I would not recommend another inspection date as it pointless to re-inspect. You can also high light this on your PIR in the "next inspection" section

I have never done this to be fair, the shortest period I did was a 6 month one, for a commercial site, where I carried quite a bit of remedial work, once I had completed the work I replaced that sticker with a 5 year one, and then issued another PIR with the 5 yrs on it. This was recommended due to there being quite a lot of old MICC cable that were IMO starting to breakdown as they have fairly low IR readings.

How about 'N/A-See PIR Serial No. XXXX'

In line with ESC recommendations, we avoid making statements like 'needs a rewire' and instead would use something like 'from the measured test results, it would appear that the installation has reached the end of it's safe working life'

By the same token, it's best not to describe a 'satisfactory' installation as 'good' or 'excellent' but merely 'acceptable'

I know it sounds pedantic but it covers your Arsenal ;)

Definitely, although most likely within the accessories. I've often found that once accessories are disconnected the cabling IR is fine. Sometimes...
