PIR sensor wiring for Stairs

Silly question time. I've never wired up PIR sensors for stairs before.

Today I went to replace a 'faulty' sensor, on the grd floor of stairs. Tested sensor, which had 3c to it, but think the installer had connected the wires incorrectly; sw/L (black sleeved brown) was in the L terminal & L (brown) in light on or sw/L terminal. Had 240V in L terminal, nil in sw/L terminal. Then resident popped out of flat on 1st floor and set off 1st floor PIR. I then had 240V on both L & sw/L terminal, 20mins later I gave waiting for 1st floor PIR to time off.

My silly question, is the PIR's sw/L would be just linked together, hence 240V at my faulty PIR, until the other PIR timed out?

Yes. They’ll be looped
I’m guessing you made sure the lux settings on your pir were set correctly?

Some electricians use black sleeved brown as the permanent live on this sort of thing along with emergency lights, whereas most use the brown. Nothing wrong with either way, we just need to be aware.

Thanks for the advice chaps. The set up is quite large, probably hundreds of these things. Got the details of the PIR, and phoned the manufacturer. The settings are altered by an IR remote, which we haven't got one of. So thats the next thing to get.

Just wanted some guidance on the wiring, just to make sure, as it were.

lost my rag with one of these once, it also had an EM and test circuit.

Apparently it had never worked properly since installation.

Spent ages working it all out then lost track of what was what.

Ended ripping it all out and rewiring, luckily it was all surface mounted an fed from click plugs.

Midwest. Do you have an electric centre wholesaler near you. They have just started selling remote emergency lighting stuff. Prices are really cheap.
May be worth checking them out to see if there compatible with your system.

It’s not a contracting company, I’m maintenance there, but yeah things need to change
