Discuss PIR, Zs testing in the Periodic Inspection Reporting & Certification area at ElectriciansForums.net

Must admit after passing my 2391 about 2 years ago I've done a fair amount of PIR and this last year EICR, I'm certainly no where near as qualified as some here but I'm daily confident I know what I'm doing, however Spin has just completely opened my eyes further to the questions I've been asking myself about dead testing on inspections, his post just makes so much sense!!, I dead test on pir because I was taught to, The only dead testing I will be doing from now on will be R2 on the wanderlead of fancy metal lighting!

agree with spin. R1+R2, along with IR testing is part of the initial installation testing, mainly to ensure that EFLI values will be low enough for the specified OCPD and to ensure that the circuit/s is safe to energise. on a EICR, trhe circuit is already energised when you get there. the main thing that bugs me when a circiut cannot be de-energised for whatever reason, is that you are then unable to carry out |IR testing, which, IMO, is an essential component of ensuring that the installation is safe for continued use.

You would have thought they'd have a switch to flick on and off to engage an override. Not on each PIR but an actual light switch
