plastering a ceiling

I'm working with a construction company who are adamant they plaster ceilings before our lights are cut out! I've never seen this done before and think its a crazy approach as you are more likely to cause more problems than you'll solve. Has anyone else come across this or am I just working with a bunch of idiots?

My only real concern with this was the fact the main contractor knows the drawings are wrong so light positions WILL definitely change. The ceiling has been fitted hard up to joists and there is no access from above (its actually more complicated than this but hard to explain without seeing the job). The cut-outs are only 40mm. It's an old listed building that is in constant use for big weddings and expensive functions so mess and noise is a big "no no".And work times are restricted! We are gonna let them crack on and the plasterer can have his fun skimming the perfect ceiling. I just know they'll be issues and wondered what others experienced. Reality is I guess it's just down to the individuals and management.judging from responses I think this is just very bad management. In the room before we actually had to fish cables out of a 20mm hole with a 50mm void that had channel and top hat... Again with no exact locations! The contractor or plasterer believed you wouldn't be able to get a good finish if we pre drilled holes. Ridiculous! He also ignored our idea of drilling a larger 100m cut out to fish to these 20mm points if the finish was the case. The finished ceiling got destroyed! Especially, the 20mm holes cos our rods damaged them the second we bent them to adjust for the tight void. I thought that area was a one off... Then they suggested the same down this 30m corridor with 70 odd d/l! Lesson clearly not learnt

Same old story , the sparks making it easier for other trades but f***ing our selfs up, cut em out and let them plaster over it what difference is it gona make? And while they are at it tell them to make sure no plaster is left over your cut outs

In my experience plasters aren't much for helping out other trades, some do most don't.

my plans are generally accurate to about 10mm, give or take, but I've previously wired DLs without board being there, allowed the muck raker in to do his job, and cut holes later, bingo Bango cables almost fell out of the holes.

also had one when I wired dozens of DLs in one room, only to walk off site as the tenant was uncooperative, like calling me out on an evening because they had messed with the electrics and ****ed it up, or not allowing me to return while the plaster was there but they weren't. Or just ****ing blaming me for issues caused by points that had been in situ for 20years, go figure!
anyway, they struggled to find a decent spark to finish the job, so plumped for a kitchen fitter/domestic installer, he called me 4months later and asked if I had a plan for the lighting,4 MONTHS! I was given 2 weeks to complete!

I gave him the plan like a muppet, but I didn't explain what all the different marks on the cables meant. That's the only job I've walked from
