Hi

I am looking to do a short course to Learn how to programme plcs. I have done a Hnc with a module on plcs therefore have a basic grasp although as my industry requires me to engage with controls and instrumentation, brushing up on my Plc skills would be useful without paying money to cover old ground. I stay in The glasgow area and can't seem to find anything useful. if any one has any suggestion that would be great thanks.

I've just looked at the Crouzet range. Which Telemecanique units are a stripped down version of them?

The Modicon 984 could handle 1K I/P 0.5K O/P with 1.5K registers for data. We then went on to Telemecanique TSX.

Sorry Tony my bad I meant Schneiders Zelio soft is a cropped version of a crouzet ...Ill edit the post to correct.

I used PL7 for Telemecanique TSX. Zelio is in Schneider’s own words for programmable relays.

So what are we talking about here?

Micro PLC or zelio and similar as you may refer to it have made leaps and bounds in the last few years and they are now classed as PLC's I have them running direct off encoder inputs and many other digital and analogue inputs that 5yrs ago were not available, hence the market drop on full established PLC options, I replaced recently a full operating system for a stone cutting saw with a micro PLC at a fraction of the cost of the original supplier and added a few custom requests.... I couldn't have done this a few yrs ago.

It is worthwhile trying out Siemens free LOGO! Soft Comfort software recommended by gnuuser if you like to use FBD in programming, it can also switch to ladder Diagram option. The HELP document is very useful to learn the function of each FBD; in addition, there are many sample application programs come with the software, you may use the sample program to learn the programming approach too. The software has simulation function that you can test out your program without having to buy the hardware and save trouble in wire up for testing.

There is another low cost option if you really want to buy the PLC that has almost same functionality with Siemens LOGO!, the Chinese product EASY Xlogicsoft (-Siemens Logo, Easy relay, smart relay, mini plc, programmable relay, xLogic, SuperRelay, Micro-Plc, Relay, PLC, crouzet,Moeller,Zelio, programmable logic controller, canbus, home automation, Automation, FBD, Function Block Diagram, ladder diagram, Intell), its software with simulation tool is free too. Indeed I came to know the product before using Siemens LOGO!, I like its Boolean function block that simplify one of my application program.

I am just like you, do not have opportunity to work and learn PLC programming in my career, few years back I bought a low cost NAIS PLC to learn Ladder Diagram programming, soon after I had my PC clashed and the programming software comes in 3 1/2" flopper disk went bad too, till now I am still searching for the software as I am not used to FBD but more incline to use Ladder Diagram in programming.
