Can someone please help me with my friends lights he has old wiring and he got new light fitting the wiring from the ceiling he has three red wires and three earth wires and three black wires but only two wires in the new light fittings which are blue and brown please help me to help him

^^ There you go, a volunteer ^^

Sounds straightforward enough, but you will need help confirming which cable is which

Edit:
I meant Chris the volunteer, but Vorti managed to squeeze in there

Sounds like fairly standard ceiling rose wiring.... 3 earths, 3 reds, 3 blacks. Loop in (one red, one black, one earth), loop out (one red, one black, one earth) and switch (one red, one black, one earth).

Unless your friend has appropriate test gear, it's unlikely (without the bang test) that he's going to be able to correctly identify the switch wire, so I would suggest you suggest to him that he contacts a local spark (may be contact @chris gray using the private messaging facilities here on the forums and get his details to pass on to your friend).

Thanks guys but he can do it his self he just wants some help but you just seem you don't want to ok

We WOULD help, but step-by-step guides are forbidden on Forum rules.
As @SparkyChick says, it sounds like a standard loop in ceiling rose.
The trouble is which black is the switch wire and which 2 are the neutrals. Is one of them marked with tape or a bit of sleeving?

Get it wrong, and there will be a dead short between live and neutral when the switch is pressed. This will result in a rather large bang, some damage to the switch and possibly the finger that is in close proximity to the switch.

We're not being stubborn here.... just cautious.

House burns down and insurance company asks about recent electrical work.... "Yes its done right.... I got told how to do it from a friend who got told how to do it from an internet forum"

PM @chris gray if you haven't already.

@David Robinson , can I ask... are you an electrician? Your profile suggests you have some electrical qualifications (specifically 17th edition and part P, which I'm assuming are C+G 2382 and 2393).

If you're not and/or you don't have those qualifications could I ask that you update your profile accordingly as people use it to gauge how to answer questions.

These two soggy dogs are from Hull. Woof Woof!

@David Robinson you need to appreciate that the 3 blacks, 3 reds and 3 earths are 3 sets of one black, red and earth. Each of the sets has a different purpose. 1, Live in, 2, live going out and 3, switch. To work out which set does which, test equipment is needed. Only then can anyone explain how to connect it. Difficult in a forum chat. ;)

Ask your friend where the original wires were connected to.
