Is there ANYONE on the forum who did 2330 level 2 last year and is currently doing 2330 level 3 at the moment?

If so, what are your plans to achieve the nvq 3 grading needed to get your Gold JIB Card?

I am currently in the process of a formal complaint to C & G over the ending of the NVQ 2356 and the rigmoral of the new "2357".

To make matters worse I found out from my college last night that the "equivalent 2330 level 2" EAL Level 2 we did last year wont be recognised by the C & G, but thats another story!

When I told the army of lectures and department heads tonight that the normal route was lv2/lv3 then nvq 3 through training company ( paid for by myself) was the way everyone has been doing it up till now, then went nuts and said thats NOT the proper way to do it and its "the backdoor" way of getting qualified.

As far as they are concerned its lv2/lv3, then get a company to take you on as an apprentice and do your nvq 3 . In their words " you have to work alongside an electrician day in-day out to complete an nvq 3.

The tutors at my college made it pretty clear on the 1st day that after 3 years of study without real world experience you're not an electrician. You can't buy experience, it takes time. And experience.
Would you trust a 'qualified car mechanic' to fix the brakes on your family car, if he knew all the theory that he learnt at college whilst delivering pizzas but had never touched the spanners?

Thanks for the reply, but maybe i was unclear.

I know that I will not be a competent electrician until way after my NVQ is completed.

What I am saying is that as 90% of work at the moment is subbing through an agency, then the only way to complete the nvq3 is from job to job that you go to. I think my lecturers are living in the 80's where you could get an employer to "take you on" and complete your nvq3 whilst working alongside the electrician who's been at the company since 1965!!!

As an adult re-training and spending nearly 3 years at night school, i dont need more hoops to jump through, especially not working for an apprentice wage, not that any company would take me on as I am 37!

I am more than happy to work as an improver from the summer ( when i finish 2330 lv3) for a year or so, gain my nvq 3, then apply for my gold card in summer '14.

The college has told me that I would have to do the 2357, cross mapping the 2330 units into, but still having to do the practical assesments and the am2 - I DRED TO THINK HOW MUCH THAT WOULD COST EVEN WITHOUT THE KNOWLEDGE!!!

Seems my only option is to pay for the NVQ 3 2356 before 31/1/13 and get it finished for 2015.

Again, is there anyone else who is on the 2330 lv3 that is doing that or are you going to do the 2357 in Sept '13?????

Apprenticeships these days are advertised for 17-19 year olds, almost all companies in the land will not take anybody over the age of 19 i.e if turned 20 or older forget about it.....its partly because you are less likely to stay with them when finished if you are older and mostly to do with the fact that subsidies only exist for "the youth unemployed" to get into training, also the young ones get paid about ÂŁ4 an hour and can manage at this low wage due to still for the most part living at home, and they can be moulded into mindless worker ants, usually what we call skivvies ...

how do the young ones these days survive on apprentice money and still keep a car going etc......probably mum and dad....

For goodness sake, the scheme is so open and the rules are so relaxed that they are slumped on the floor.......there are "apprenticeships" going just now to learn waiting at tables, bar tending, cleaning and also even stacking shelves....and it's the big companies that are doing it......they are using it as a way to pay people under 21 ÂŁ4 an hour, and even less....some as low as ÂŁ2.50 an hour last time I read about it.....and the companies are getting a steady stream of young people in order to satisfy their urgent desire for cheap labour ...as well as milking subsidies that probably pay the most of their wage bills for "Apprentices"

I completed my 2330 lvl 3 15mth ago and at the time I was never bothered about doing the nvq and the am2 as I thought the nvq set-up was money making scam with nothing to gain from doing it. However after doing the 2391 was informed that I had to comlete the nvq to be graded as a electrician, from there I was wrongly informed that I had to complete the newer 2357 nvq with 2 weeks off work to do a unit that is in the new course (environmental unit)

Anyway cut a long story short. The only way now unfortunately to gain electricians grading is to complete the nvq. With the newer nvq you have to do the am2 as part of the nvq. Where-as the older nvq does not require the am2 to recieve the certificate.

Wrong I think as the NVQ is just a money making scam
