Hey up Paul, sorry mate I have only just seen your post, we are open to suggestions pal if I'm honest.

This a quick and simple one just for education and fun.

SPOT THE FAULT???

A Mentor (or a Trainee in time) posts up a pic with fault/s in it. Trainees then PM a Moderator with their answer/s. Lets have a prize for the Trainees efforts, its been quite a while to be honest.

@GMES I'll sort out the first question bud and put up ÂŁ20 towards a prize for the Trainees. If you or another Mentor can match it, I'll have a word with the forums sponsor Test Meter and see what I can get out of them? I hope that they will agree to adding another ÂŁ20 and the winner can spend up to ÂŁ60 on their online site linked to this forum on whatever the Trainee winner wants to get?

Good comp idea, great prize..... GMES you just have to do the hard work lol (got your back buddy ;) )

I am in training currently as part of a career change and like the idea of diagrams and comps as anything will be really helpful.
thanks

@fergus12 , Firstly good luck with your training course. And take a look here!! There may be something of interest to you.

You should find loads of useful literature in there, also start searching back through the trainee section and you will stumble across loads of helpful threads.

Same boat,

Advice on how to switch from current career to becoming an electrician. How to find work, where to find work? This comes from a background of no practical experience.

Thanks
Don.

GMES, this is a very common question from Trainees and other members of the forum. Something I can help out on if it is any use?

Really liking the look of all this, I'm 27 now and after years of trying my hand at various different jobs I've finally decided now is the time to join the family business and train to be an electrician. My dad has been a spark for around 30 years so I'm lucky in that sense as I can go on site with him and pick his brains for knowledge however I think a forum like this is invaluable when it comes to learning due to the amount of experienced people on here.

I look forward to using the training side of the forum for advice and help with anything I'm not sure on from my course. I think I will be ok with the practical side of things but I've heard a lot of talk about formulas and maths and that really is my weak point!

As for competitons etc, that sounds a great idea, prizes etc don't motivate me too much as quite frankly picking up knowledge from top sparks is enough but it's certainly a bonus.

Cheers

the maths and the formulae are not really that difficult if you have somebody that can explain properly. most fall down when the subject is not taught in the correct manner, thus making it seem more complex than it is.

Cheers mate, I just about managed a C at school but I rely on a calculator these days!
Crikey, when I started college we had lessons in how to use a slide rule, I'll hang around for the inevitable questions like "what's a slide rule Pete" from the younger members.
