Hi guys, could you please take a moment to review the electrician's work on my flat and leave a comment as to its quality.

Switches and sockets were placed in various strange positions without my agreement. He has moved them where required but they're still not 100% and are not centered and measured properly on the walls.

We had agreed that all wires would be chased into the brickwork inside plastic conduit. I am disappointed to see so much raw cable buried within the plaster without conduit.

Thanks for your input,

yes all, I had found a perfectly good electrician on this forum and ended up choosing a builder's electrician to save a couple grand - and look at the state I'm in.

suggestions on what to do now are welcome. How do you renegotiate payment at this point?

Sorry to say but this approach nearly always ends in tears, you can probably kiss goodbye to the couple of grand you saved.
Whilst I wish you all the best in sorting this, I feel a lesson well learned. Lack of Money should never be the reason for choosing a trade, save up and pay for a professional rate.

My god I thought I was rough!!!
was the electrician British because if he was he should be struck off, it looks like something you see when your on holiday.
personally I'd kick the electrician of site and get a qualified one in, if the builder complains I'd kick him off as well cos his work looks like a bag of ****e too.
what do they say get three quotes and pick the cheapest, and by golly this is what you get

to be fair the electrician is NICEIC certified and came highly recommended from the builder, who himself had several good reviews on mybuilder.com.

but yes, consider my lesson learnt.

That is a terrible electrical instal and so is the rest of it. You have been had and unfortunately trying to scrimp on paying the proper rates has left you with this. Did you even ask the "spark" for any sort of prove of competency probably not as you where paying peanuts.

Learn a lesson from this and get qualified tradesmen to do the work not just the first :cowboy: to offer a cheap rate.

mybuilder.com.......oh dear. And NICEIC registered. You need to get onto NIC and get them round to have a look. Thats if he really is which personally I doubt, but then again nothing surprises me these days with the state of this trade.

I haven't paid anything yet. Do you think it would be fair to just ask him to quit and call it even? He only spent 2 days work on it, and a roll of cable. Is zero payment fair?

It's not even worth ÂŁ360.

Was there a contract drawen up for any of this work? You as the client can state at the contract stage that electrical work has to be carried out by a member of a professional scheme.

I'm niceic and now thoroughly embarrassed that they would let this monkey join. Does prove that as long as you pay your good to go.
you can phone niceic up and ask for one of they inspectors to come out, it's worth a go cos if its part p there's an insurance issue.
but good luck with them I think you will have to persevere
