Please teacherrr.... could you just check my workings out? (electric gates)

Been asked to take a supply out to the gates (60m run) Not sure of the loading of gates but presume there not much.

Will be fitting a 16A breaker for the gates heres my calcs (tried 2.5mm but to my calcs there's to much volt drop heres my calcs for 4mm could someone just verify for me)

4mm 2core SWA = 11mV/A/m

11*60*16/1000=10.56V

230/5% = 11.5%

Therefore acceptable?

Thanksss!:cool::cool:

My first post on here but calculation is close, i agree to assume 16-20amp for gates as this allows for any future tap offs ie gate lights, door entry etc.
Think i would favour 6mm for 60m and 2core as will be TT. many would try to get the cost of cable down due to copper now but i always try to justify to client a larger cable for future use. They may not even have thought of these extra's yet and you could get more work.
Just my thoughts and how i operate. hope that helps.

I think you got your answer Liam and i wanted to find out who the local sharks were lol being my first post and the new boy in these waters.
I knew this would be a hot topic after reading other like threads, should i go sit on the naughty step.

No sharks here but it is a hot topic because of the lack of understanding, check out this thread: http://www.electriciansforums.net/e...159-good-guide-exported-pme-outbuildings.html

Some good discussion and expounding of the myths lol!

yes IQ, i have found many older sparks thinking this, normally the same ones bonding kitchen sinks and benches with nice curly tails.

not seen that link before and does cut the chaff from the wheat. so to speak.
