Please teacherrr.... could you just check my workings out? (electric gates)

Been asked to take a supply out to the gates (60m run) Not sure of the loading of gates but presume there not much.

Will be fitting a 16A breaker for the gates heres my calcs (tried 2.5mm but to my calcs there's to much volt drop heres my calcs for 4mm could someone just verify for me)

4mm 2core SWA = 11mV/A/m

11*60*16/1000=10.56V

230/5% = 11.5%

Therefore acceptable?

Thanksss!:cool::cool:

yellowvanman,
"You usually calculate the volt drop on the actual current drawn, but if you do it to the size of breaker and it still works then should be OK, as that is worst case. "

That's what it says in the OSG.
Would be better practice to use In rather than Ib tho as the potential to add extra loading to a circuit will always exist.

you could TT the gates. leave the rod proud about 6" as a gate stop. middle of drive, or use the existing TNC-S.

Well it depends really if your going to class this as a distribution circuit or a final circuit. If a distribution circuit then yes technically I can see the use of the protection device for the calc, though even then that is not what I would do, you may deem your load is 55 amp but need to fit a 60amp device that is quite an over erring.

If it is a final circuit then you should only use the loading, as it is just that a final circuit, where would you stop future proofing.
