Bet there was a notch in the floorboard that was over that cable. Perfectly grooved with the skill of a cabinet maker so that it fits exactly and does not wear at all.
 
That photo with the nail stuck up makes me cringe.
I took up dozens of boards in our new “love nest”. Religiously I took the nails out of every board, except one. To this day I’ll never forget her scream! Nail straight through her slipper, her foot and stuck out the top of the slipper.

When on training with a plumber and he was asked what was the max size for a notch he said what ever size is needed for the pipe just knock it out so thats the answer did not bring on a fit rage from our tutor much
