Can you really rely on testers to confirm polarity doing a Zs? im not convinced

Is doing an R1+R2 the only way to guarente?

Depends on the circuit you are testing.
For instance the only way to prove the polarity of a radial socket circuit is to visually check it.
For a ring main you have to do a full ring test.

Can I rely on testers...? Surely what you want to ask is: can YOU rely on testers...?
What I can do with a tester might be different to what you can do with a tester.
I know what I would like to do with a tester, sometimes :)
Have you ever tried to do a Zs test on a reverse-polarity circuit?

Nope...

But polarity should be proved before carrying out any live test including ZS :)

spoilsport..... switch on and confirm polarity with finger. the brown should be the one that tingles. also doubles as RCD trip test. ( don't try this at home, children).

After having read most of your posts REGS I really couldn't work out how and why someone with your skills and abilities could make these posts.

According to your good self you have a high intellect and the ability to pass the 2391 with great ease.
You have gone through all the training and selection processes required to become a serving policeman, this in itself implies all sorts of skills and personality traits.

Soooo I decided to do some research and came up with this..

It was a genuine question that can testers be relied on that if you wanted to do a quick check on socket(s) do you think they give accurate feedback to the end user? whats wrong in this question? there are so many different one's on the market. You even get those cheap 1's for 20 quid that give the 3 light indication. If its crap and unreliable i want to throw it before an accident. You all keep banging on about safety, this relates completely to safety and still all silly childish remarks.

In answer to above post of course i've tried reverse polarity with my megger which it will detect no problem. The whole reason for the post was if you switch the earth and neutral around they don't pick it up.
