I'm seeing a fair few jobs advertised that state that you must have current "police pass/clearance" to apply. What exactly is this, and how do you go about getting it? Can't find sod all on google about it.

No idea... I'll ask our security lads as they have a "good relationship" with plod. We've also done a few jobs including fishing a foil wrapped parcel from inside consumer unit.... but I don't think any of our lads has police clearance.

Never heard that term exactly, what it might be though is CRB, criminal records Buerau checked.

Certain places won't allow tradespersons on there 'sensitive' sites such as schools/hospitals/prisons etc. Basically if you have a criminal record this may count against you from gaining access to certain jobs.

it could be a crb check, the security industry have used this for years before it was know as crb, basically if you worked for a security co they sent your details to the local force who would check if you were suitable to work in the security industry.

I assumed it was something similar to a CRB, thing is with those, you can't just apply and pay for your own can you, has to be done through your employer as far as i know, which is great when you don't have an employer to apply for one for you haha.

Not sure if things have changed as it's about 8 - 10 years since I last needed police / home office security clearance but there was a few levels and each had different forms to fill in if I remember correctly one was about 12 or 16 pages long and very in depth and detailed but some are 4 - 6 pages long. A lot depends on what the job entails as to what level is needed also not sure you can get it without being offered a job or you are employed by a company who carries out contracts that requires it.

scotland have now changed from DISCLOSURE to something about protecting vulenerable persons ( children old forlk learning difficulties ect)
basic disclosure check is realy to assertain you are who you say ypou are and that you dont have any relevant convictions
this can be done by the person ie YOU
FULL disclosure use to be project specific ( ie working for a firm , assisting at football team, helping out at oldfolks home, volenary driving people to hospital) would all count seperatly ie 4 full disclosures required all costing a fair ammount
the new vulerable persons thing covers ALL things

its a crb check, I had 2 done one for the fire service and 1 for virgin, you can pay yourself and have it done if you need, unfortunately its a case of someone asking you for something when they don,t know the correct name of it.happened to me at virgin, guy filling in form for me to sign and it said have you had crb before,i tell him yes but he ticks no.after a couple of weeks I get a call from crb asking if i knew someone has applied for a crb in my name as all details were same but no mention of me already holding advanced crb for fire service, guess they weren,t pleased after i explained as they sent crb back with a letter telling him to fill it in properly next time lol.

I'm glad you can so categorically state it's a CRB enhanced or otherwise, having worked in a few areas for the police and one of those government departments where you may come into contact with information that is of a sensitive nature the forms you fill in are a little bit more than a CRB and have questions relating to family members and whether you or any members of your family are members of any organisations that are considered dodgy and many more probing questions

the crb is basically what the police know about you,the home office one is different like you say,i done one a few years ago for unescorted access while working in naval yards,it went down to grandparents details, its amazing what a government knows about you and your family..dont know why they bother with forms..they know it anyway...

I was refering to the normal requirement for working in non seure areas, schools, hospitals etc now if you were working in a military establishment then things such as the official secrets act may come into play.there was last time i filled one in a section where you had to name close relations and give their details so they could be checked,to see if you had what in police terms was called any known associates i.e people with a record which may give a potential employer a reason not to employ you eg your brother is a major bank robber.

Filling the forms in is just a test to see if you know as much as they do:wink5: after filling one of those forms any other form is a walk in the park

The question I liked was the one "Do any members of your family or friends have any subversive tendencies" how would I know
