keep thinking ponty, your in right frame of mind, or im mad too.. i do find in building game , you are best getting architect involved and engineer, then builder take the work and one person responsible and he in charge. one chief, 2 max ,many indians as you can handle..

Same thinking as the others really.
Main problem with it everyone you work with works for themselves so price work acordingly to cover their costs.
Would work if everyone was employed so the houly rate produced profit, so when you price something and the plumber gets £15 an hour he will walk or you could charge his normal rate of £60 an hour and lose money after the company profit/overheads is added as like the one stop shops on watchdog. What would happen if work clashed for a trade as he was doing a job of his own.
Think you see the likely problems with the idea, it will only work if everybody reduces there prices and all work went through the business.
Good thinking though, but needs many large tweeks.

Thanks for your entire input guy's, it really is appreciated.

I think for this idea to get off the ground, I will be the one doing all the work and as quite rightly said, too many chief's!!!!

At the moment, I have way too much on to devote the time required. If I / we do go ahead with the project, it will have to be at a time where I can spend time working at it. I also think the best way would be for me to front the project.

The shop we we're looking at is ideally situated; however if in the meantime it gets rented to someone else then so be it.

Again thanks for all the advice; it's good to get independent input from people, especially from professionals in the trade.

Cheers
Ponty

Good news you have loads on, very refreshing to hear things are moving in diff parts of the country. More so that expansion is on the cards.
good luck fella thats what the trade needs right now.

I think the 'umbrella' company will need to be a profit making entity in its own right so you'll need to set up a website and get a marketing system running and any work that comes in a percentage would need to go to the umbrella company for its efforts. The umbrella company will be a full time business in its own right so I wouldn't expect to be able to run it in your spare time because I doubt you'll still have time to be on the tools as well.

Edit;
I can't help thinking you're reinventing the wheel to some degree and after your idea has evolved you'll be left running an agency type set-up.
