Your tutors should let you know what they require you to have, its usually given as a list at the start of your course. Definately will ask for steel toe caps, don't be tight & get cheap ones, you'll want to be comfortable all day. Things like goggles & hard hats should be supplied - check first before turning up day 1 in a day glow boiler suit, rubber gloves, wellies & a mask.....unless this is your usual get up.:D

Hi
The ppe you need in the field will kind of depend on the type of electrical work you're going to be getting into. But for college you will probably get away with hard hat, and work boots, at least that's what I was required to wear when I did college. You should be able to get a half decent pair of steel toe caps at Brantano, Barrats, Matalan etc for around the 20 pound mark. As for hard hat try b&q or another diy/builders store, you should be able to get one for under a tenner.
Also I would strongly recommend investing in a decent pair of knee pads. I'm starting to get the odd bit of trouble with my knees and I've only beeen in the trade just over ten years, and I know older sparks who have really dodgy knees from being in the trade.

Knee pads are a must, ive got the trousers with the knee pads built in, godsend, they really are. When buying boots don't go for the most expensive. I bought a pair of dewalts cost me 60 quid and lasted me 6 months, im currently wearing a pair i picked up for 20 quid last year and they are just as comfy. Good luck

for going to college you will need steel toe caps and overalls tats what we had to supply if we needed anything else this was supplied by the college

Seconded.

In a college workshop you will not need kneepads ( obviously do in the real world mind ). With regard to boots the steel toecaps are essential, but you can (or at least we were) allowed to wear trainer style, steel toe caps shoes which are much easier to take on or off than boots. We have to change at every break when in the workshop so the shoes were brill- also easier to store in a locker.
