Hi everyone, new to the forums and looking for some advice from you guys. I've wanted to train as an electrician since I left school but ended up getting into other work, however, I just got paid off and think this is the ideal chance to get into what I want to do. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the pre-apprenticeship courses that some colleges offer and if they think it's worthwhile doing ? I'm in the Glasgow area and this seems to be all that I can get onto just now to get any experience but I'll have to fund it myself.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot folks.

Don't know mate, it's 18 weeks 3 days a week and I think it just covers the first few units that would get covered in the first year of an apprenticeship.

Tbh mate I'm not sure it will help a great deal. As it won't help you with the work you do on site and when you start collage you'll pick up All you need on the 2330/2356

Depends on your age if you will have to pay for the apprentiship course

I would save your money contact collage enrolee on as a apprentice and they help you find a employer and you work with them until September and start the new 2357 course for apprentice's

I think most sparks will agree although collage is very important it can't beat on site time, so rather than wasting money find a employer and get on site until you can start the 2357

All right mate cheers. I've got no experience at all so it's hard to find anything even just working as an electricians mate and learning on the job. I don't know wether finding a course tht would give me some knowledge to allow me to get out on the job would be a good idea or not but I'm definitely thinking the college route isn't going to be much use unless I get on an apprenticeship.

Thanks for your help.

Na you really need the apprentiship! Although every college has a office that look after the apprentices. And one of there jobs is to help find employers. I got my apprentiship through my college and finished it last year it's the way to go ;) good luck mate
