Hi all got to do a price for changing 600 swa glands from internal to external as they are all coroding and are useing the swa as the earth its 2 core 16mm how much would you guys charge is it best to do day rate or per gland the cables are all ready striped just got to remove them from enclosures and replace with new.

Dayrate if you can get away with it .....................if the existing ones are in that bad a cndition then just getting the locknuts loose can be a nightmare, and then stripping off the old gland could be challenging ..............try day rate but I'm sure they will want a price.

Plus with that amount I bet it will not always be plain sailing getting isolation on certain circuits.

Also dont forget if they are exsisting BW clands then the Swa wire may be corroded so allow for some time on each cleaning up the armouring, just in case

Glands for 16mm 2 core are CW25, so about £8.50 a pair!, wouls probably go in at around £20 a gland inclusive of the gland

it may also be worth checking out EarthNuts as HT says if the armour is corroded or gores bent in silly shapes it may be hellish to remove

I was thinking 30-35 a day, £20 a gland, inclusive of gland.

total = £12k
Less glands £2550

£9450

£475 a day so my price is probably a bit strong, perhaps £16 a gland all in, gives a little wiggle room

the site was all wired new in 2003 the owner spent £400k having it wired we hav also got swa that have very low ir readings and fail which will need to be replaced which will invole diging up the road on the site found out the cables are only about 6 to 10" under the tarmac cars passing over them all day long the standered of the work is s##t

A couple of things that you would need to look at would be how are the cores connected, screw terminals or crimps. If it's crimps your looking at addition time per gland.

I'm sorry guys but there is no way that you could do 30+ glands per day, over a 8 hour day you talking 16 mins per gland and that's not talking into consideration moving from one place to another. Also are all the positions at ground level or do you need access. What about isolations?

If it was me and I was pricing it out I'd be looking at the following (assuming no access required and isolations were carried out):-

0.5 - 0.75hrs per gland inc testing @ £32.00 per hour x 600no plus materials.

Looking at between £9600 - £14400 plus materials.

I'd be shopping about for material costs, cable gland costs varies between supplier by a huge amount btw!

£2 PH Your havin a girraffee aint ya?? thats astronomical even the firm I work for ( fairly large national maintenance firm charge @ £30 initial visit £26ph there after £32 is ripping the preverbial
