Hi all,

As per my thread about my obselete P.M.E circuit breaker, which looks like the below, I wonder if I could have your rough estimates for how much you'd charge to replace the below with an up to date circuit breaker please.

[ElectriciansForums.net] Price required for CU change

I'm from the Stoke on Trent area and any advice on prices for this would be appreciated. I also need some other things doing, a double socket which gives me a shock when I plug things into it, a heater/light being removed above my bath, and recessed ceiling lighting installed in two rooms. Hoping for a quote for it all individually, so I can choose which priorities I should make.

thanks very much

Probably about £350 for the board, upgrading the bonding and a certificate on it.

The rest of the stuff is hard too say without looking at the job. The socket could be a 5minuite job or a couple of hour's too sort out. I'd normally charge downlight's at £50 a point

Supply and fit providing bonding to gas and water is ok you would be looking at £300.00 to £350.00 please please stop using that double socket as for the rest to supply spotlights and fit You would be looking at two days work £400.00 pm me if you want more details

hi phil, did you mean £400 for just the spotlights? or £400 for the RCD and the spotlights?

That sounds cheap, ive just priced a cu up and its £440 for materials to comply with regs. What cu are you supplying and where is the cheapest place to buy one?

A 17th edition board fully loaded should cost around the 60 - 70 quid mark for a quality make such as MK or Wylex ,pay any more and your being ripped off.....

Prolec hi integrity board £54.00 plus Vat not the best but ok from cpc online, sorry cant quote for board change for you little to far to travel ,but the quotes you have been given seam very fair

A fusebox replacement for domestic is one of the most profitable jobs for an electrician.

If you take in to account meter tails, 16mm earth a dual RCD board and mcbs then parts will be £70-100

Most fusebox replacements wont take all day, unless the house is big, or the board is inaccessible, so £120-180 labour could be feasible.

Alas there seems to be a bench mark of what we can get away with charging for a fusebox replacement, in my area i could charge £350-400. A nice little earner!

you are looking all day for the job half a day to replace the board half a day to test and verify ,sounds alot but when you take out the overheads even for a one man band ,

car sevicing Ford £69.00 per hour £483 per 7 hour day labour only
Volvo £95 per hour £655.00 per day labour only

now thats a nice little earner
