Have a larger rural property (small-holding, barns, workshops etc) which needs an EICR doing prior to a heap of work. Reckon it's going to take me 2-2.5 days to do it properly (at around 50%). Fixed price EICR not appropriate clearly but I don't want to scare the client with a big number when we all know what the cowboys are knocking them out for. Also don't want to go too low as it'll set the benchmark for charging structure in all the future work.

North Devon - anyone got a suggestion as to what a fair going rate would be? It's been too long since I've done this.... brain hurts! Feckin' coronavirus.

I start at around ÂŁ50 a board and ÂŁ16 a circuit but this can vary depending on the state of the installation and the attitude of the customer.

That's just the start...... EICR is to find out what I then get to rip out and make some better sense of!

If it's going to take 2-2.5 days, then charge 2-2.5x your day rate. Explain to the client it will be thorough, and will take that long, and that's why it's ÂŁ---, rather than a drive-by, going-through-the-motions job. It establishes what your day rate is for/to this client, and if they're not happy to pay that, then you can decide what to do about that - either reduce your rates, or sack them off.

I'd be looking at ÂŁ400-500, probably the higher figure.
