Hi All,

I'm just coming to the end of my 2330 course. I've just finished my exams and I reckon I've (hopefully) got distinctions across the board.
I just have a bit of a query regarding 2391 inspection & testing. How much more depth does the 2391 qualification go into beyond what is covered in 2330?

I'm not working in the trade as yet so I'm not sure if trying to go for the 2391 is a step to far too soon - what are your thoughts chaps ?

PS - if anyone is looking to employ a hard-working spark in the West Yorkshire area then please give me a shout.

Cheers
Steve

Wouldn't worry about it mate from what i hear half the people that take the course aren't even electricians there caretakers and stuff you'll breeze it its the best time to do it when its all still fresh in your head. good luck!

2391-01 has a large failure rate as its a closed book exam so you have to have a very understanding of the regs. Its a great course. I would recommend getting a couple of years on the tools and expiriance first as it helps with the practical. the biggest challenge witht the exam and practical is Time so confidence in useing the Kit is key.

i agree with scotssparky i have done both courses.there is a big jump between in these courses,I know people who have done the 2391 full time sparks and still failed.
But if your quite switched on and found 2330 easy and learn guidance note 3 inside out you should be ok

Good luck:)

Forget the 2391 for now as it does go very deep and from what you have said you will probably fail. You need to be doing inspection and testing on a daily basis before considering this and then take the fudamental course first. If I were you I would first do the 1 day course on the 17th Edition as completion of the 2330 L3 entitles you do this in i day or about 7 hours.

Yes, I appreciate it's a double edge coin.
On one hand, the teaching is fresh in the mind and I wanted to maybe take advantage of that. On the other hand, I do desperately lack practical exposure to real life inspection and testing so that's probably where I would fall down.

I will probably leave it a while to do my 2391. I've got my 17th ed exam next week.

Cheers for the advice chaps,

Steve

Steve,

We deliver 2391 to many 'green' sparks that have just come out of their time or passed 2330. We have a mix of customers but we get a feed from JTL of completed apprentices. We have a pass rate on 2391 of 70-80% (evidence available) over a UK average of 40%ish.

Might sound like we're blowing our trumpet but it's more about where you take the 2391 more than anything else, it is not an experience thing. If you are ready to learn you are ready to take it.

If you are serious about your role you could ask how could you do with out it? How would you confidently and competantly inspect and test your completed installations.

As a MD of an electrical company as well as the training centre our minimum ask now is 17th and 2391 for vacancies - there are so many lads out there that employers can be choosy and the quals are a good start.

If you intend to have a go on your own you would need 2391 or very similar to get any accredditation from NIC/NAPIT etc.

Either way, in this day and age it's fast becoming a must have qualification & trust me I know from both perspectives.

Hope that helps. PS. How long you be out of work, you might be able to get some funding?

Regards, Gary D
