Hi, I'm Dave and I was wandering if I could have help with something.

If I were to wire a 5KW motor what means of protection should be incorporated into the inverter for compliance with BS 7671?

Thanks! :)

What does your risk assessment state, as this will have a big factor in your question?

On a good note, while we wait for the OP to come back to us and answer our questions, I now have the 2018 version of 60204..:smile::smile:

Welcome to the forum Dave, we would need a lot more info' than provided by you question.
If you are enquiring on overload protection of the motor then the VSD will provide that if set up correctly.
If you are discussing electrical noise like harmonics then refer to the manufacturers instructions for the drive, many drives have inbuilt or footprint filters already on them for the smaller sizes.
If you are asking about upstream fusing for the drive then again refer to the manufacturers instructions for correct sizing.
If you are looking into using external supply control voltages and commoning 0volts to the drives 0volts then that depends on the way the control power supply is arranged.

This really isn't covered by the BS7671 which focuses more on the power supply to the machine/control unit, this falls more under the machine code regulations.
