The sad thing is though, many people don't give a damn if the work is good and complies with regs, just so long as it works and is cheap.

So they can spend their money on more important things live car veletting or a nice new tablet so they can chuck the £500 laptop in the cupboard

As my company has grown over the last few years, we have let quite a few customers go. As previously mentioned by someone the less professional builders can be a nightmare. They can be so disorganised that you quickly see your profit margin dissappear. Also the newbie property developers who have been watching to many tv programmes can be just as bad.
It does, , however, make you appropriate the good clients.

Yes i kept having problems with one builder who does every thing in cash, expects everything for dirt cheap

One day he brought half a drum of red and black 2.5 to site with the sides missing from his shed and an old consumer unit he found on another job with all the knock outs gone, covered in paint and wanted me to install it for the client and to 'knock some off my bill' i burst out laughing and he looked at me and said 'whats so funny?'

absolute mickey mouse outfit he was, i tried to explain i run a legit business and simply dont operate like that but he couldnt see it and thought i was ripping him off!!

i ended up walking of the job, i felt sorry for the homeowner having this monkey working for them

luckily this is only 2 out of about 9 building firms i work for the other 7 are legit, vat reg and cis payments etc and dont even question my invoices

We done work for a firm for close onto 30 years. The place changed hands, suddenly we were to expensive, some guy travelling about 150 miles away was cheaper. So we went our seperate ways. This was beginning of last year. Come last Boxing Day they phoned up. I asked where there other guy was. He wasn't answering the phone. I said I'd come out for, but it would be £100 per hour not our usual £35 as they didn't want to use us regulary anymore. They accepted. Never went back again after, didn't want to. But it was nice to see them eat humble pie.

Some people can't see past the black and white of figures on paper. They forget you drop everything to sort them out when they are in trouble any hour of any day.

I did an alarm for a customer woman next door got her brother to fit a wireless system from Screflux then she called me and I said there would be a callout charge O I thought you would pop in to have a look Emm no thanks my customer when she found out called to apologise and said yes I paid more but I have peace of mind that you will fix free of charge for the first year.
