bassically a gap like this is ideal, crap alarm thoughthecontact allows a separation distance from magnet of up to 10mm. so a 5mm gap is ideal. going back to OP, fit like this, but with a clearance gap

you have 20 secs from entry to rip alarm off wall in hall and pull battery out XD.
there a waste of time, no notification on anything if they lose sync or battery dies.
ill pmsl if house gets burgled and alarm doesnt go off because of desynced/flat batteries
