Qualifications = fully qualified

Alright guys

I'll be starting my level 3 2330 in september, just wanted to find out what qualifications you need to be fully qualified.

Is it?

2330
17th edition
part p
2391
NVQ

At the moment i work full time and trying to get voluntary work in order to get my NVQ, for most jobs, would it be essential to have the NVQ?

No such Qualification it's a BUILDING REGULATION

2391 is not required to be qualified. In fact, you are supposed to be qualified before attempting it.

Am i right in saying that you will be training to the 17th edition during the 2330 so the 17th is not necessery?

Nope, you still need to take the 2382 17th exam, if you complete 2330 lv3 now you will only need to do the update version, 30Q's not 60. The 2330 doesn't give you any formal regulations qualification

That is my understanding. The 2382 qualification would be entirely pointless.

I have never understood why people seem to believe that a Regulations course is necessary after completion of a Technical Certificate based upon that Edition of the Regulations.

I think it's largely due to employers/agencies asking for such a qualification without understanding whether it is relevant or not.

I finished my 2330 last year and have since completed my AM2. I got laid off recently and applied in desperation for a job paying terrible money but it was local... I was told by the agency that I could only be placed on their system as an improver because I have yet to obtain NVQ3, which means I can't get my JIB card and therefore I'm not an electrician.

Incredible. Sadly considering the number of times I've been turned down because of that exact problem I'm starting to think she was right. This was the worst move I ever made. £3000 out of pocket and apparently it was meaningless. I can test and understand the results, I've worked on a variety of systems, christ I've been doing this unqualified for five years.... nobody wants to know these days unless you have that JIB card.

depends where you want to go with it. ive never had nvq3 and will probably never get it as i work for myself. make your own minds up as to what qualified is and whether you actually need nvq3 before undertaking it

I've heard a lot of bullcrap on becoming a "qualified electrician"
First, one of my tutors said after the 2330 L3, another said after the 2391.A couple said the AM2 is pointless and the NVQ is a qualification for school leavers?

To be qualified as an electrician you will need 2330 level 3 and NVQ 2357. To obtain your JIB grading you will also need Assessment of Occupational Competence [AM2] and 17th regs. Then when you have had two years experience on site as an electricain together with 2391 you can be graded as an approved electrician.

I'm not far off my "approved" JIB status, but there has been no mention of taking the AM2, it's not mentioned I need to on the JIB website or by any other organisation,

why do people think the AM2 is mandatory?

I know a number of approved sparks under the jib that have not taken AM2

AM2 normally forms part of the NVQ. For non-Apprentices this may not always be the case.

So long as you have the NVQ then the AM2 isn't required (although it is usually required for to achieve the NVQ). Hope this clears it up!
