Hi, Can anyone list the qualifications needed to become a domestic only electrician (who can install and sign off an installation, if that makes sense:confused:) please?

(Info about me if it helps)
I have completed and passed the 3 year apprenticeship course in 'Electrotechnical Technology Installation' which i started in september 2006. Since completing the course i have worked full-time in the industry.

There ain't no such thing mate, you're either a sparkie - in which case you must be competent in all areas of our trade, or you're NOT a sparkie. Any monkey can chuck cable in a wall, but only a tradesmen's work will sit proudly on display... I'm not even going to elaberate on what I mean with these comments as any proper sparkie would know what I mean.
Why would you want to limit the scope of your work by only concentrating on one area within such a vast trade?

Hi cheers,
It was City and Guilds 301, 302 and 303, is this what you mean?

Im not that clued up on all the different qualification numbers sorry.
level 3 2330, units 301,302,303. i would say they will be fine alongside the 2382 (17th) edition. but if you are joinging a scheme i believe they are requiring the nvq shortly think it`s june. the nvq at the moment is the 2356 soon to be the 2357 which will include the tech cert side ie 2330 and the nvq side 2356. hope this helps.

So did you complete the 2330?

I agree pretty much with what phil has suggested. Most definitely grab the 2382. As for the NVQ, it's kinda in limbo at the moment, so maybe contact your local college for further advice as different colleges are doing different things at the moment.
Also keep an eye on the scheme providers, and their expectations.

Anyone practising as an Electrician should be able to Test and Certify their own work. Qualifications don't do it for you.

There's to many people carrying out jobs/work but don't understand why they are doing what they are and why they are using the materials they do, they are just installers imo.

Not a pop at you you mate, but Ive answered the question as itis in my world of working within the industry.
