Hi, Can anyone list the qualifications needed to become a domestic only electrician (who can install and sign off an installation, if that makes sense:confused:) please?

(Info about me if it helps)
I have completed and passed the 3 year apprenticeship course in 'Electrotechnical Technology Installation' which i started in september 2006. Since completing the course i have worked full-time in the industry.

I know of a guy who is close to retirement and been in the trade for 40+ years. He has to get a young kid to sign off his work now because he doesnt have his part p and his employer (local authority) won't put him through the course...he has forgotten more than most of the kids working with him know!

what course? part p is just a building reg. not a qualification. if someone isnt part p registered thats their choice.

as for the testing, all qualified electricians should be able to test and understand the readings taken.

he can do all that, but the local authority want part p as they are domestic sytems. they wont pay for him as he is close to retirement...as for the testing, there is no problem apart from the fact he hant got his 2391...he was qualified well before that...

He just has to register with ELECSA or similar you dont need any to register only have to have 17th in first year but as phil says its all changing he just has to be competent to pass the assesment and complete the jobs up to 17th edition standard as for inspection and testing again he dont need to be qualified with 2391 only has to be again competent in his ability and possess sufficient technical knowledge but the 2391 and 2382 would help to show this competence

the part P course i think you are referring to is a EAL domestic electriccal installer course or
LOGIC competence achievment in full scope electrical level A and defined scopes levels B,C
