There have been some posts on this forum about members being critical about the current status of "electricians" with everything from 5 day courses to 4 years training.

Most of the controversy is valid because the trade seems to have failed to demand that the standard of training meets industry requirements.

We have Summit Skills setting the requirements for City and Guilds, who set the requirements for college courses, which become the standards that students must meet.

So why do we have such a sorry state of poorly trained "electricians"? Why has it all been watered down? The college meet the Guild standards, set by Summit Skills so where does it all go wrong?

Surely the trade should have a say in the first place?

Anyone and their auntie can develop their own training courses but to get accreditation they also have to submit them to Summit Skills for approval.

So EAL and others undersell City and Guilds so they dummy down their courses to compete.

JIB seem to only accept City and Guilds certification which is a good starting point, but the differences between certification and accreditation are becoming blurred

Is EAL another exam body?

The JIB accept EAL qualifications.

When I was at college there was only C & G and all knew the value and structure of the levels and so did employers. So what is this EAL exams all about.
Don't know if I have this right Ant, but I think it's a watered down version of the C&Gs, if I'm wrong I apologise.

I see no one on here in state about having an EAL in testing and inspection.
What was wrong with having one body now we have to compare like for like are they the same?
From what I understand, the EAL 2391 is deemed by the JIB as being equivelant to the C&G 2391.

Of course, now with all the changes the C&G have made to the 2391, we will now have people banging on about how much better the old 2391 is to the new 2391.
