I like the kinked trunking lid cable entry/exit method, would have saved me a lot of time over the years if I'd thought of it

see what you mean, if the installer had gone thru centre of joist the retaining springs could have come out nice and straight on either side. On pic 2 someone has broken the insulation tape and not re-taped. On a more serious note it's downright dangerous , did the owner do it?.Cos I refuse to believe it was an Electrician.

Bad enough in a standard roof, but in thatch that's diabolical! Never wired a thatched cottage before
but that joist could be load bearing ( old properties and all that).
