I think I'd rather he was asking 'stupid questions', rather than not bothering to ask due to being embarressed because of people making sarky comments.

very true
but on the other hand i'd expect such elementary principles to be dealt with in the classroom by teachers whom are being paid for the task.
and a bit of applied thought on the question beforehand goes a long way.

Spin, I suspect that 99% of people on this forum are guilty of posting some basic questions but most of us learn and demonstrate learning. Sadly this doesn't seem to be the case sometimes.

Three years membership and over 120 posts asking questions, that with a little thought could have been worked out themselves. Guess some people don't enjoy that buzz of working out a fault or problem themselves.

Asking questions is the second place to start. The first place is being confused by the principle. I think that's classroom stuff. Now armed with all that information someone needs to take you out and demonstrate the principle.
This is the hard bit since there is very little training structures to give trainees the on-site experience required to become an electrician.

Now, with that in mind I need a trainee to do all the heavy work. PM me if you are based in the south-west midlands.....

the op should of realised what a zs involves a ring R1+ R2 + ze. Ze being external earth fault loop path and R1+ R2 being the earth fault loop path of the circuit in question.
the op would then realise to get the Ze the supply needs to be on.

IMHO all the new members are due to Dan sending out "post messages or you'll be deleted" emails on a far more regular basis than before.

Being a bit of a sceptic on this matter, its so he can say he has more people signing up and being regular users, which in turn means he can attract more sponsors and/or charge them more.

Are new members not welcome then?.........just checking. I have been a member for a little while but am not always on here due to being busy working.

That said I the majority of people do seem to return sound advice, my understanding of a forum is that its a place to sound out theories or just even just to sanity check something your doing!.

Its not that they are unwanted, many seem extremely unprepared, lacking knowledge, lacking the ability to communicate, lacking the ability to offer an answer to their problem and some are just arrogant, rude DIY'ers.

In a lot of cases they don't use the "thanks" button or say thanks
