I am trying to carry out live polarity test to test correct polarity of the supply. The system is TN-S and single phase.

My question is do i turn main switch off?

Where on the main switch does the voltage indicator leads go? Is it on the top side of the main switch (Supply) or bottom (Feed)?

Many Thanks.

Use an approved voltage tester only....place one probe on the live pole of the incoming supply on the main switch..(normally top),and the other on the neutral....you should get 230v. Now test Live to earth...you should get 230v....now test neutral to earth,you should get 0v....This will verify correct polarity of the incoming supply.

Thanks. one more questions please;

Before carrying out the live polarity test the main fuse must be put back and the installation is energised but the main switch is off. Is this correct?

Many thanks again.
