I'm studying the the Inspection and Test exam and just ran a continuity test between L + N on a downstairs lighting circuit and got the result 62.9 Ohms. Is this in the ball park as I'm not sure what figures to expect.

Thanks :)

Check the lead resistance of your leads on your test instrument, This is quite a high reading, make sure all terminations are tight but dont overtighten. I often get around 1 ohm on a lighting circuit at the furthest point. What readings u getting between l+e and n+E?

0.25 ohms through the test leads. It's 69 between line and neutral.. I'll check neutral to earth tomorrow it's getting dark now

Ah I've realised now what I've done wrong. I was measuring at the consumer unit D'oh. (first day practical)

Is this right..

Tempory link between L + N then measure at all switches and take highest reading? Then do the same for N + E?

Thanks

Are you sure you're not after (R1+R2) mate? I'm at a loss to understand why you're carrying this test out and what you hope to achieve by it

That is what I am doing starting with continuity then moving onto IR think I've just got the 2 mixed up abit. I am after R1+R2 so L+E?. Sorry for the confusion getting ahead of myself.

When you're done playing with your test kit:) get your head into GN3. The more familiar you are with it the easier the exam will be
Best of luck to you for it

Excellent :-) The case and leads are in good condition. Two live leads, one with a test button. Looks like ÂŁ30 well spent.
