Discuss Radial or ring? in the Electrical Wiring, Theories and Regulations area at ElectriciansForums.net

the only 2 advantages of a ring final are, in my mind 1. double the current capacity of a radial. 2 . in the case of an open circuit cpc on a ring, all sockets will still have cpc.

I have mixed feelings about the Radial/Ring debate.
On one hand a Ring makes a lot of sense, csa size, sharing of load across the circuit etc, the Radial on the other hand is not with out pitfalls, loss of cpc at any point renders the circuit potentially lethal and not to mention the load all being pulled from the front end so to speak, I suppose if they change the regs to more Radials they might make you run a separate cpc back from the last socket back to met or cu ? I know it's part and parcel of the job but I do detest the crossover tests on rings..But I still do them..ggrr

I have to say if I had a clean sheet and was rewiring my own place I would go with several radials one for each room, Kitchen either two Radials or a Ring a lot of breakers but hey ho
