If used correctly, Rated People can be a very useful and profitable tool!
When I started using it I only went for leads that seemed genuine and had a reasonable budget. I steered well clear of the leads asking for rewires for under £1000 and consumer unit changes for under £250. About half of the leads I have purchased to this day have been bad leads but I have always been credited for them. This in itself has often worked out in my favour as I've bought quite a few leads for about £2.50 to gain contact details for £100 and £250 jobs that have turned out to be bad. I've then filed bad lead reports and been credited free credits for those bad leads but with an unlimited value. Essentially, what this means is that I've spent £2.50 on leads that turned out to bad, filed my reports, got free lead credits and then used them to purchase £25-£30 leads for rewires and such like that are often worth in excess of £3-£4k
I made as near as makes no difference £4000 on my last rewire and the lead only cost me a couple of quid! In my case, within the first few weeks of using it I'd say that the site had already paid for itself many times over. It only takes that one good lead and bobs your uncle!
I use it less and less now but it has set me up with quite a few repeat customers. I'd say all in all I've probably only spent about £150 using Rated People but I reckon I've made at least a good £10k out of it.
And for those of you who accuse them of being scams, yes, you are totally correct and I hate them for it. I just view them as a neccessary evil that are in the way of getting good work.
I'm using a site called FreeIndex more than Rated People nowadays and guess what, all the leads are free!
