My my next door neighbour have Said they have been having probs with there RCD. The test button was not working. When I looked I notices that the instead of a main switch it had a 63a 30ma RCD. Any got any thoughts on this, does not seem quite right to me.

Exactly the same as whats in my home
Its been there 25 years and having the know how and equipment available to update the system, its staying put, because its a system nearly as good as it gets
In your case the test button should operate correctly and should be regularly tested (even if the system were new)
It appears a new system with dual rcd in your case is the way forward although it could be possible to get a replacement but not recomended

No Des, surely you can't believe it's good, what about the vast amounts of deaths caused by nuisance tripping in similar arrangements to yours?

Ah Ah I must be one lucky guy :)
The truth is I've got away with it this long and "if it aint broke dont try and fix it"

The amount of grannies falling down the darkened stair is getting into epidemic proportions I believe

Yes, somewhere, there's an electrical black hole with the grannies, operating & maintenance manuals and previous test results, all just swirling around, never to be seen again......
