ok really strange had a customer today who I did a mains change for last week. Everything can be fine and then after a few hours left hand side of board trips. this covers lighting (with no earth!!) and 1 ring main. ring con ok. My initial thoughts was the fridge so plugged this in to other ring socket on right side to see if that tripped it. Left hand then tripped (ok not fridge) Got it down to a faulty laptop charger they said they had trouble with tripping when they took it on hols. That tripped the right side where no faults reported to date.
After this happened the rcd will not reset as if there is now borrowed neutrals but all was ok before charger was plugged in. Even with neutrals out it will not reset if there is load on left hand rcd. cant get my head around it maybe as it was getting on a bit and the charger seems to have put faults on right hand side rcd. any ideas please help!!!

Neutral-earth fault on one the circuits. Not necessarily on the rcd that's tripping. What about the control wiring for the heating/hot water? Could the tripping coincide with the times this is set to come on?

My guess is an earth to N fault in the damaged light fitting. This will become a problem when other devices draw large currents.
