hey all

ive been called to a caravan where the power keeps tripping out. ive got a 30ma rcd, which feeds a db with main switch, zs of 16.6 and all circuits clear. when i drop the 10mm tails off the load side of the rcd and test on x1 im getting >40 and x5 >400. and >51mA. ive tried 2 new rcd's and all the same. however with the tails reonnected and test done at a socket im getting >40 x1 and 19 x5 and 46mA.

what is going on?

thanks

What make of RCD is it? Some don't like being tested on the outgoing terminals.

Think that only applies to MEM units, and even then, you only need to attach a few inches of conductor to them and test from the ends of those conductors. All the other manufacturers recommend testing at the units terminals.

look...if its taking 51mA on ramp..then what do you think?
have you got the tester set correctly?

do you know how to test...
answer truthfully as if you arn`t sure..we can give some guidance here....

I do but any extra guidance would be appreciated. A 30 mA rcd should trip less than 30 not greater. X1 less than 200 and x5 less than 40. Testing the rcd on load side with no load it want trip on x1 but will on x5 and ramp test is giving >51 hence no trip on times x1. So why is this the third rcd same problem
