RCD on Supply tails

Can you put an RCD on the supply tails of property instead of replacing the db does this comply with current regs as you cant have a rcd as a main switch.

I think you answered your own question there, also do you want the whole installation tripping when a lamp blows or a fault developes??

not really i want to change the board, I'm doing some work for a kitchen company and there isnt enough money in the job and the customer wont pay for it so does a RCD comply?

yes, then use the dis board main switch as the main switch and put up with nuisance tripping

brillint that is a lot easier still dont like doing it as its a crap job but if there not willing to pay, so would i just do a minor works for the rcd?

what work is it that you are doing that needs RCD? is it just kitchen sockets? if so, fit a RCD after the OCPD in the CU (in an enclosure next to CU)

putting a new ccu in for hob, spots, and sockets for appliances

so what's wrong with a RCD as main switch for the new CCU? it's not as if you need to split circuits onto separate |RCDs.

You could have an RCD on just the circuits you dealing with. Check regs 531.2 and see how you understand it as thats all it boils down to, interpritation.

guys dont mean to hijack this thread but can som one explain on the best method to do an rcd test on a rcbo at the board (not talking sockets circuits) i have an assesment soon and want to get this right do i connect to terminals on rcbo or do i connect to the outgoing nutral flex and earth flex or earth bar or do i connect some tails in terminals to avoid any direct contact issues can some one explain in detail. laymans terms please

What about that exposed busbar? I would only allow someone to test for safe isolation with the main switch of the C.U in the off position.

Could you not raplace the exsisting MCB`s with RCBO`s ?
Remember changing the [h=1][/h]characteristics of the cct in question would raise an EIC.
