RCD or not?

D

Danielwareham

I'm installing an outside light for a client and I'm going to spur from a socket using a FCU. All very simple. The ring main I'm using has no RCD protection. As I'm adding to the circuit I see it as I should be bringing it up to current regs i.e having an RCD on the circuit. Not had many jobs to date, so unsure if this is something I should insit on (or not do the work as the customer doesn't want it done) or just make a note of on the MEIWC.

Thanks

The requirement is that your work meets 17th edition regulations. Therefore if the cable your installing needs RCD protection (is concealed in a wall or partition) either use an RCD FCU or RCD at main board.
If you don't need an RCD make a note of the lack of RCD for the sockets on th MEIWC.
