High i install garden awnings and i have been asked to quote for an electric awning, they require a 13a spur. I was just wondering about bonding and RCD protection. As its outside i gess it would need RCD protection?? could this be provided by a RCD spur inside the house say off a ring circuit? also if there was no bonding in place would this need to be updated. just need an idea of what work would be needed to allow me to quote the jobs correctly. i will be asking a fully qualified electrician to do the work so if any of you guys are near bristol?

Thanks Chris

As its outside i gess it would need RCD protection?? Fixed equipment outdoors does not require RCD protection...but most electricians including me would consider it good practice for such an install.could this be provided by a RCD spur inside the house say off a ring circuit?Yes...but depending on the age of the existing it may already be present in the CU,in which case no further RCD protection would be necessary. also if there was no bonding in place would this need to be updated. Yes,assuming there are incoming services which require main bonding.just need an idea of what work would be needed to allow me to quote the jobs correctly. i will be asking a fully qualified electrician to do the work so if any of you guys are near bristol?
Doubt many would be prepared to work to YOUR quote....why not ask an electrician to provide their own quote?
Thanks Chris

Thanks that helps a lot :) Its mainly so i can get an idea of what to look for when i go to the customers house, so i can inform the electrician of what work needs to be done. Alot of my customers want a price there and then and would take longer if i was to get an electrician to quote it as well.

just another quick question if the bonding is in 6mm cable would it need to be updated to 10mm???

What you should do is forge a good relationship with a local sparky and get them involved so after a few you'll be able to give indicative pricing as part of your job. That said there are times where you'll get it wrong.
