hello im new here and baffled after today.doing rcd trip times test with newish newlec multifunction tester.new install 0n up and down ring circuits on separate rcds trip x half ok on both trip x 5 ok on both less than 40 m/secs but trip x 1 on both rcds tripped rcds but no readings due to safety cut out on meter indicating 50 v ,have lost manual so not sure what this means but strange on both new circuits and new hlgh integrity board rcds would appreciate any views.
 
Meggers are expensive but I think they are reliable.
Most MFTs or any make will work OK if they are the full size ones, some of the handheld types are a bit dicey but it does depend on what you are going to use them for. If you need an occasional quick test of a limited range of tests then small ones are OK. If you are constantly installing and testing or doing PIRs then you need to know you have something reliable. Also different make may have additional tests available such as phase rotation and earth leakage which may be useful at times.
All depends one your requirements and budget.
