Morning All

I was called to a property the other day. Dual RCD board. One of the RCD's is tripping most mornings between 4am - 6am.

Check the board, only 4 circuits connected to that RCD, 1 socket circuit (upstairs sockets), 1 lighting circuit, smoke alarm circuit and outbuildings supply.

Tested all of the circuits seperatley, all readings above 5 Meg Ohms.

Couldn't find anything wrong anywhere, this has only just started to happen too, but it ONLY happens between 4am - 6am. Nothing plugged in thats on a timer etc.
Tested RCD out, and that seemed to be working as it should

Any ideas?

Ask her if you can kip on the sofa until the fault materialises and then quickly test everything:) are there photocell controlled circuits anywhere? Could be as it gets light the switching off is causing the trip

I always find it depends on the 'talent' of the female client before requesting where to kip

When I was at college, my tutor told me of a fault that was on a farm, the electrics to the barn would trip every morning without fail, everything was checked, nothing obvious, then they found it was condensation within the conduit, possibly running down onto the light switch and tripping it all, might be something to add to the list I possibilities
