I am new to these forums and am looking for a little advice on what to do about my re-settlement qualifications upon leaving the royal navy. To cut a long story short I am being discharged on medical ground due to being diagnosed with type one diabetes whilst on deployment on a submarine. Prior to joining the navy I was qualified 16th edition and had two years experience under my belt on several different functions of the electrical intustry, i.e domestic, industrial and commercial.I understand that I am going to need to re-qualify as I have been out of the game for a good number of years. The courses the navy are offering me for free are these:-ECS Health & Safety – JIB

Very helpful that Geordie Spark. I can't seem to do the 2330 through the mob as thats more of a long termer. I will do that in college on a night time in birkenhead. That's pretty close and they offer it at a very affordable rate.Telectrix......Do you have much work on in that area of the country? I've done some research and there are lots of refurb projects going on in the rougher parts of the wirral and liverpool so could potentially be some good opportunity for price work in the area.

I got out with the qualifications but not the experience. I'm registered as self employed so I can work for various agencies and any one off jobs as employers find it easier for you to sort your own tax out. I could have gone for scam membership straight off but decided a couple of years on the tools would stand me in better stead, I'm also looking at college to gain a couple of NVQ's, I was going for the 2330 Lvl 3 but my local place is now fully subscribed so I'll have to go for the newer one.

I'm glad I decided to gain more experience first, these training courses only give you the basics. No mentioned of fault finding or how to interpret results, luckily I'm that way inclined and I've learnt loads of this place.

Times are tough at the minute and getting work is hard. Agency work round here has been quiet the last few months, had a couple of permanent interviews but heard nothing back yet.

Prepare for disappointment mate, the most frustrating thing is, no one responds to you, not even a curtosy email to say no thanks. Good luck.

tried rated people. might be worth a flutter on their ÂŁ10 trial. but be careful which leads you buy. getting the van lettered next week, that may help.

You tried leaflet dropping? Basically I want everything set up for my termination date so want to get all of the early leg work out of the way. I was thinking along the lines of a 10,000 flyer drop in the local area, local radio show sponsership to get the name in peoples heads, sign written van and website obviously. Want that all setting up for my tx date. There are people in the mrs' family that work in trades and have already offered me work, so should drop on my feet in that respect but it would be great to have a steady flow of work coming in also.
