Afternoon chaps

I have started a rewire today and initially I planned to put a separate ring in for the kitchen. However now I have started I'm not sure I need to.

It's a small terrace with living room (4 Doubles) dining room leading to the kitchen (4 doubles in the dining room & 6/7 points comprising double sockets and FCU's)

I couldn't convince myself one way or the other so I thought I'd ask on here.

Normally I always put a separate ring in for the kitchen but as this place is so small I'm starting to doubt myself.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

no such thing as over kill ... but if you are bothered about it do front and back of the house rather than up and down with a kitchen on its own. but if you think about it the kitchen will use more power than the rest of the house combined, by the time you have all the appliances ect...

It's better for discrimination to have more than 1 socket circuit per house

However I and millions of others have survived on 1 socket circuit and it's never been a problem

So If its fiscally practical it's better to put the kitchen(/floor/ area/etc) on it's own circuit if possible

I always do the kitchen on it's own ring, but thats just me, I could even say 2 rings in there, one for the appliances and one for the general sockets for the microwave and kettle etc :43: but won't say it :innocent:

I'm going to stick to my guns and put a separate ring in for the kitchen. Thanks for your comments chaps!!

A good call!! The kitchen will always be the main power draw of any domestic installation. So if your in the process of rewiring this property, it's a no-brainer to provide the kitchen with it's own FRC. Your not just looking at today's power requirements, but also covering your customer for future additions....

a RFC or a 4mm radial for the kitchen, the rest of the house on 2 20A radials. unless they've got 3kW heaters plugged in everywhere.

keep a ring final to about 10 points.....so in this case pull either a 2.5/1.5 ring final in for the kitchen.....or go for a 4.0/1.5 A2 circuit......
