Re wiring antique chandelier for sale what sort of tests will they need

Hi guys I deal in antiques mainly furniture and smalls. I have just bought a couple of chandlers from a auction (a very good deal) I have rewired them before but only for my self so I would like to know if I need to get them pat tested or anything as I want to sell them on as restored and wired. All the parts I will be using come form a company in Birmingham and are a CE certified.

It would probably help their sale if you can demonstrate that they have been inspected & tested, and are safe to be installed. I have done this (PAT test chandeliers) for an antique dealer local to me in the past.

If there are metal parts with cabling inside, then I am looking carefully at either the earthing of these parts, or that double insulation is correctly used & maintained throughout (class II fitting). Sometimes even on new/current light fittings, the manufacturer has little idea of how to do this properly.

Ok great thanks so getting them pat tested is a good idea. Are there any other test I should be considering to make sure they a legal for sale?

No the whole point of buying them rewire them and make a profit I just wanted to know if there are any legal requirements I need to know about.

There are strict rules covering this sort of thing for obvious reasons. You are legally obliged to ensure they comply with relevant standards and you would be liable should one of these items cause injury due to an electrical problem. This is the reason why auction houses sell electrical items as non operational and also the cost of refurbing them negates profit. I worked with a charity retailer a few years back to weigh up the pros and cons of selling on electrical items, the idea was scratched as the risk was too high.
There are companies which specialise in this work but this comes at a cost.

If you rewire these lights then you become legally responsible for thier safety,
So if you change anything from manufacturers original,
You are responsible.

easiest option is the test them, then sell as "altough tested and in working order, these items are sold as "spares or repair" ". this gets you out of the fertilizer shoud they prove to be faulty.
