Well if it is/was added by the forum (or wasnt) and is due to the possibility of there having being a denial of service attack on this site, would it not have been prudent of the forum admin/owner to tell users about it.
So we might be aware in case we come under some attack or any of our data has been lifted.........happened to sony and others not so long ago.

You're talking about two completely different types of attacks, DDoS is about hitting a server with a high flood of traffic to cause it to crash, lifting data is hacking or a security breach and not related to DDoS, so no, there would be no reason to inform users.
