Hello all -

I'm new here - signed up to try and answer a really basic electrical question which I have googled in vain.

I just bought a mechanical doorbell which runs on mains power - which I presumed meant that it would have a plug on it, or at least a socket for a plug cable. But in fact it's just a bare transformer with no markings on it that I can see, and a one page instruction with no markings on that either.

All the instructions show is a diagram with INPUT 220/240V, and two lines going to the transformer terminals: a solid line to the left hand terminal, a broken line to the right hand terminal.

Could you tell me which of live, neutral and earth on my plug cable goes to each of the terminals?

Thanks for your help, and yr indulgence of my ignorance. :smirk:

If you like rum mate, try woods 100 Navy rum with a drop of coke. Not a bad tipple.
When I'm cooking steak I use a rub of Aromat &good soy sauce on both sides, cook medium rare: Good grub.
Lambs navy rum for me. Usually at Christmas though with me old pal(dad)
And they all sound like smashing plans. Made me hungry now. Damn.

I would assume this is some kind of nail in or p clip which are single point fixing and intended for cable support.

I was meaning suitable cable clips for the cable to give it support, much in the same way you would clip cables coming out of a traditional round JB which doesn't have cord grip.

Not a flex coming from a JB I hope.

The question is about a bell transformer which is fixed to a surface and doesn't have cord grip. I was pointing out that the cable should be secured rather than left loose and at risk from strain.

The JB was an example in reply to your comment above. My example was a traditional round JB that doesn't have cord grips - in this case the T&E is clipped to prevent strain on terminations.

Simples???
