i think around the £300 mark too tbh. I wouldn't have thought your price was over the top. Going rate for the area definitely!

mate it is only an estimate - a best guess at how long somethings gonna take if you estimate 3 hours but it takes 4 then charge him for 4 plus your mark up on materials of whatever you can get away with (cough) kidding but allow 20% to cover fuel/time spent getting materials/ call backs due to faulty gear etc

if your worried about losing the job just estimate 2 hours but make sure on the estimate it clearly says what you charge per hour so estimated time 2 hours @ £35ph ...for example
so when it takes 4 and the bill is for 4 hours @ £35ph , he cant claim to not know you charged that much

Labour is obviously the tricky bit. Did any of you see the LINE stand at elex sandown. They had a competition - fastest 5 wire downlight with chocbox = 8.5 mins. fastest with LINE = 2mins15!!
